Adria Mobil with double victory on Cyprus

Adria Mobil with double victory on Cyprus
First race of the season, first victory of the season! Heroes of the day are Jon Božič in Gašper Katrašnik, winners of the first stage of International Tour of North Cyprus. Jon is now also in the leaders jersey, Gašper took the jersey of the points classifications leader. On Saturday rider will face much longer stage.

142 km long stage from Girne to Lefkosa developed just like Adria Mobil Cycling wanted. 9 riders escaped soon after the start, including Jon Božič in Gašper Katrašnik. Escapees were working together a got a significant lead. With 30 km to the finish Jon Božič attacked and only one cyclists could follow. Ten kilometers later he attacked again, this time he was left alone and went all the way to the finish line. Escape group has meanwhile fallen in pieces, and Gašper was the fastest among those riders. Double victory for Adria Mobil Cycling and two jerseys!

Jon Božič: “Gašper and I were working together in the escape, things really went our way. At one point we even had a lead of five minutes. We’re also fighting on the intermediate sprints and there took another six seconds. Escape was still successful, the gap went up to seven seconds. I felt good, I wanted to attack. Sports director allowed solo attack… so I went. At first I was riding with the cyclists from team Monkey Town, we were keeping quite high past and we worked together. At one point I attacked again and rode in my own pace and everything turned out great. Beautiful victory on the first stage of the race here in Cyprus. I’m in the leaders jersey now and I want to defend it all the way to the end. Actually this is my first victory in elite category, that is a great motivation for the season.
I want to thank everybody that supports me on my way. But very special thanks go to our mechanic Dejan who two two wheels in his hands and jumped on the motorcycle when our car broke down with 5 km to go.”

Sports Director Srečko Glivar: “We had the race under control from start to finish. I expected smaller gaps and fight for seconds on the intermediate sprints. Our riders did a great job today and are now in very good position for the remaining two stages of the race. 180 km of the second stage are ahead of us, it’s a hard stage with very difficult finish.”
