Matej Mugerli eight in Lugano
Italian Mauro Finetto of team Neri sottoli - Yellow Fluo is a winner of 68th edition of SuisseGas Gran Premio Città di Lugano. He was fastest in the group of 15 riders; among them was also our Matej Mugerli, finishing eight.

The weather was nice and the sun was shining on 180 riders from 22 teams on the start of this 196 km long classical race. Adria Mobil came to Switzerland with 8 riders, which were racing according to the Matej Gnezda’s instructions and saving their energy for the last part of the race. This was a smart move, since the group of 15 escaping riders were caught by the peleton, with Yates and Canola being caught the last about 10 km till the finish line. Attacks followed, but at first nobody managed to get away from the big group. Matej Mugerli came to the top of last climb in fourth position and that was important for the grand finale. He managed to take advantage of this in the group of 15 riders that came to the finish line first and took the 8th place. He was the fastest among the riders from the continental teams.

Mervar Boštjan, team manager: “Crashes in the final part of the race have stopped Mugerli to get even higher, but he had a great race today. Competition was strong and a top ten finish is a great success for the team.”

Matej Mugerli: “We were racing with full throttle from the start line. I wasn’t worried about 15 escapees, we caught them all. Final climb was a decisive moment, however I should get more from the sprint, I was felling good.”
