Rajović & Katrašnik in top-5, Rogina without victory for his B-Day
Team Adria Mobil Cycling came to new success on 2018 edition of Poreč Trophy, but victory was out of reach. Radoslav Rogina wanted a victory on home race on his birthday, but his escape didn’t succeed. Rajović was third, Katrašnik fifth, and the victory went to Latvia.

Demanding weather conditions seem to be new standard for spring classics in Slovenian and Croatian Istria, and today was no different. Race from Poreč to Tar even finished in rain. Teams didn’t play very active roles in these conditions, the race was quite peaceful till its last third when Adria Mobil’s Radoslav Rogina attacked and escaped.

Radoslav got a company of two cyclists, only one was able to keep his pace. But even that one was not strong enough to take charge and help change the escapee in the success and final victory. Rogina is celebrating his birthday today and he wanted this victory even more. Teams started they chase and caught the two escapees just before the last five kilometers.

After that everybody was sending their favorites for the sprint finish in Tar, a difficult finish of the race with a kilometer long climb. Team Adria Mobil Cycling prepared the terrain for Dušan Rajović and Gašper Katrašnik, but neither of them were strong enough today. Latvian Emils Liepins (One Pro Cycling) won the rainy sprint, ahead of Norwegian Asbjørn Kragh Andersen (Team Virtu Cycling), Rajović was third. Best Slovenian was Tadej Pogačar (Ljubljana Gusto Xaurum) in fourth, Katrašnik was fifth.

Gašper Katrašnik: “As a team we had another great race. Rogina was in the escape in the last part of the race, that was a good situation for us and we didn’t had to chase. His breakaway didn’t work, but the team stayed focused and took Dušan and myself to a great position for the sprint. At first it was planned to take Dušan to the final attack, but he lost a contact with me at about two kilometers to the finish. He said that I should sprint as well. We could execute everything much better, we lost couple of places in the last kilometer. We have higher appetites after great results on the first races, but we still have to be happy with new podium finish.”
