Tour of Slovenia: Jon Božič in white

Tour of Slovenia: Jon Božič in white
Fierceness was awarded after all! Jon Božič was one of the main characters of the long breakaway on the first stage of Tour of Slovenia, beneficiations from intermediate sprints were enough to get into 3rd place overall and get into white jersey.

159 kilometers long stage from Lendava and Murska Sobota was almost completely flat, with just one easy climb to Goričko. We all expected that sprinters will go head to head on the end, but also that we’ll see a long breakaway. This happened, with Adria Mobil’s Jon Božič taking big part of it.

First to escape were two riders, another three followed shorty. Jon was among the three and the strongest of the bunch. Both small groups quickly formed a five man escape, with Jon and Benjamin Hill taking all of the intermediate sprints.

Srečko Glivar, Sports Director: “We were planning that Jon would take the white jersey, but also the blue one for KOM competition. Everything went as planned and Jon actually won the mountain finish, but the victory was taken away from him due to apparently incorrect sprint, which is something he strongly denies. But he still got 7 seconds beneficiations on other sprints and that was good enough for white jersey and high overall position.
Rajović was there with the best sprinters, but got involved in the Caleb crash. He’s not injured, so he can still do a good result.”
