Matej Mugerli takes his first victory of the season
Matej Mugerli won second edition of the Umag Tropy and got his and Adria Mobile’s first victory of the season. He was faster than Kvasina of Croatia and Mucelli of Italy on this 161 kilometers long race.

12 riders escaped in the second of total 7 laps, among them were also Slovenians Klemen Štimulak (Adria Mobil) and Jan Tratnik (Amlatz). The escape group got to about minute and a half lead, but after team Radenska took charge the gap came down. Peloton eventually caught the escapees two laps till the finish. Mugerli, Kvasina and Mucelli had much more success with their escape. They escaped in the last lap, got to the top of the climb with 15 seconds gap and managed to hold for the last 10 kilometers, all the way to the finish line.

Adria Mobil’s team member Aljaž Hočevar won the race last year, making today’s victory fourth in a row for team on the early season events in Istria. This is real achievement, especially if you look at the number of competitors.

Matej Mugerli told us after the race: “The race was very nervous and much harder than I expected. A lot of riders were out there and crashes were often. I replied to Kvasina’s attack in the very last part of the race and then we caught the Italian rider together, he already had a noticeable lead at that point. In the last kilometer I saw that the big group is closing fast, so I attacked and managed a solo win.”
