Marko Kump takes GP Kranj

Marko Kump takes GP Kranj
We couldn’t ask for a better end to the cycling festival in Kranj – we already took two important victories in the last two days, and today crowned the race weekend with Marko Kump’s victory on prestigious Grand Prix Kranj.

Victory on Grand Prix Kranj – Filip Majcen memorial (UCI 1.2) is last in the series of victories on the highly successful weekend in Gorenjska region. Our elite team started the weekend with David Per’s victory on Grand Prix Šenčur and continued with Gašper Katrašnik’s victory on national criterium championships. Dušan Rajović was also fast on both days and was twice just behind the winner. Main prize came today on the streets of Kranj, with victory on the 51st edition of the race.

Marko Kump won GP Kranj in the sprint finish, second and third were Italians Paolo Totò & Marco Cecchini.

GP Kranj winner Marko Kump: “What to say, team again performed with honors and my teammates did everything as planned. Gran Prix Kranj is one of the biggest races for the Slovenian teams and I’m very happy that I finally won in Kranj. Race was very interesting, with breakaway that was only formed in the second half of the day. We bet everything on the sprint finish, and so it happened. I felt good throughout the race. Guys prepared a great position for me on the Jelen climb, so I started the sprint pretty fresh and I knew that it will be very hard for anyone to pass me. Victory is a confirmation of the good training in the last period, when I was focusing on European champs.”

Sports director Branko Filip: “We had a month long period without races, but we only had couple of days of real holidays – we’re preparing for the second part of the season in this time. Proof of good work came with very successful weekend in Gorenjska, at the same time this race represented the last rehearsal ahead of upcoming European Championships. We’ll have six riders there.
We wanted to be successful in Šenčur, that is why David’s victory brought so much joy to us. Team was flawless on Saturday as well and new success came. Leader for today’s race was Marko Kump, the only thing I was afraid of was tiredness after two days of racing. Guys did great job and decided on their own to go in the front and prepare the terrain for the sprint of the main group. Marko is in excellent form and very motivated for the European Champs. Only a crash could take the victory away from him today. The whole team was great and they all deserve praise.”
