MEDAL WINNERS FROM THE BIGGEST COMPETITIONS AT THE 2024 NOVO MESTO GRAND PRIX

On Friday, December 20, and Saturday, December 21, 2024, we will witness the 3rd edition of the international UCI C2 category road race at the Novo Mesto velodrome - the Novo Mesto Olympic Center. The competition at the velodrome is more than 150 years old and also represents the basis for road cycling. It takes place on a special sports facility where cyclists reach extremely high speeds. Modern velodromes consist of two 180-degree inclined turns and two flat sections. The most media-recognizable are the Olympic disciplines, of which there are 12 (8 men's and 4 women's). The disciplines are divided into sprint and endurance. Road cycling has been on the rise in recent years, both in terms of competition and in media coverage. The largest cycling nations are investing heavily in this sport, as it is an important Olympic sport with twelve sets of medals. With the covering of the velodrome in Češča vas, the development of cycling on the cycling track also began in Slovenia. Training and competitions at the Novo Mesto Olympic Center have a significant impact on the general development of cycling in our country, especially on the development of the youngest cyclists. Cyclists have good conditions to achieve top results in cycling disciplines on the track. The first signs of good work and potential have already been shown by the medals won by our cyclists Žak Eržen and Nejc Peterlin at the largest competitions - the European and world championships, both of whom have already confirmed their participation in this year's Grand Prix Novo Mesto 2024. The European Youth Champion and World Team Champion, Italian Matteo Fiorin, will also be at the start, and this time he will race among the members. On Friday and Saturday, December 20 and 21, we will witness a unique event at the velodrome in Novo Mesto, in which more than 250 cyclists from 11 European countries will participate. The competitions will take place in different age categories in several disciplines, both days starting at 3:30 p.m. and ending around 9 p.m. The highlight of both days will be the competition in the royal discipline MADISON, the first day among juniors, the second day among members. The sponsors of the Madison discipline are: Adria Mobil, Šolski center Novo mesto, Flycom Aviation, Persil, Schauma, Trimo, Očesni center Preskar, Hotel Center, Malkom, City of Novo mesto, Konvikt d.o.o., Roletarstvo Medle, Resus, Embis chimneys, FA Taft, Pierre Baguette, Derganc Anton s.p., Halo kamiJON - Jon Božič, Eventus and Avtotransporti Zupančič.
The Novo mesto School Center will provide live coverage of the event, and you can follow the events on FB live on both days from 3:30 p.m. until the end of the competition.
