TIM MERVAR AND MAI PREVEJŠEK CELEBRATED AMONG THE YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE ROYAL MADISON

The international cycling event GRAND PRIX NOVO MESTO 2024 (UCI CL2 - Class 2) ended on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the Novo Mesto velodrome, which our club organized for the third time in a row. More than 260 cyclists from 13 countries took part in the Novo Mesto Cup and the Christmas - New Year's criterium, including medal winners from the world's largest competitions and the Austrian Olympic team. In the royal madison, the Italians Matteo Fiorin and Matteo Donega defeated the locals, Nejc Peterlin and Žak Eržen, in an exciting playoff (the winner was decided by the last round). In this, for the spectators, who gathered in large numbers in the stands of the Novo Mesto Olympic Training Center on both days, the most interesting discipline, the first day among older juniors, was won by Tim Mervar and Mai Prevejšek. Our cyclists did great, winning 15 medals (2 gold, 9 silver and 4 bronze) in the four disciplines that were on the competition schedule.

Srečko Glivar, competition manager: "The velodrome is most relevant in the winter period, young cyclists gain experience, and for older cyclists it is a way to diversify and prepare for the new season. We are pleased that there are more competitors every year. By covering the velodrome in the Novo Mesto club, we are paying even more attention to track cycling. We are inspired by the world's cycling superpowers, where there is almost no cyclist who did not start at the velodrome. It is recommended that young people ride on the track, here they learn a lot about the technique itself and also riding tactics."
