Matej Mugerli will face new challenges
“I would like to thank Adria Mobil Cyling…” Matej Mugerli is leaving the team from Novo mesto after three seasons of racing and is heading to Azerbaijan. He signed for the continental team Synergy Baku Cycling Project. Azerbaijan is investing a lot in cycling, with an aim to build a top team in couple of years – just like Russia (Katusha) and Kazakhstan (Astana) did. Matej Mugerli will be there to help young domestic riders on this path.

Matej Mugerli was one of the Adria Mobil’s best riders in the last three years. He took ten victories in this time, three of them in this season. After 13 long years he brought a national championships title to Adria. For the whole time he was Adria’s highest ranked rider on the UCI Europe Tour rankings; in July 2013 he was even wearing a white jersey of the leader in this competition. Before departure for Baku he said: “I would like to thank Adria Mobil Cyling for the support in the last three years. Team is on the high level and I always felt good here. I had a nice period in my career, a period I will never forget. I took the offer from Baku because I wanted a new challenge. Since there will be only four foreigners in the team, I consider this opportunity an honor. My job will be to teach domestic riders how to race and help them on their way to success. Once again I would like to thank my teammates, staff, team manager, management and all the fans for their support. I wish Adria Mobil a very successful 2015 season.”

Team manager Boštjan Mervar was surprised when he heard the news about Mugerli’s new team: “I respect his decision. We depart as friends and there is no grudge between us. Every rider has a right to decide on his career. Matej Mugerli is a top cyclist and I’m very grateful for everything he did for us. I know that he will be successful also in the future and I wish him the best of luck.”
