Qatar: change on top

Qatar: change on top
Azzedine Lagab of Algeria is the winner of the first stage on the Tour of Al Zubarah. He was just a fragment faster than Kristjan Fajt, while the rest of the first group followed over half a minute later. Legab took the overall lead on the race, Kristjan Fajt is now second. David Per stayed in the jersey of the best young rider.

As expected the stage was very windy, meaning that is was a constant struggle for the position in the group and every centimeter of the tarmac. Peloton split in several groups about 15km after the start. Group of 13 riders took the lead, among them were also three Adria Mobil’s cyclists: Kristjan Fajt, Radoslav Rogina and David Per. Group was working together until the attack 30km before the finish. Radoslav Rogina and Austrian Mario Schoibl attacked to about 30 seconds gap, but that was not enough. They were caught 10km to go, after that we saw a final attack by Fajt and Lagab; Algerian was faster on the prologue and took the yellow jersey.

Kristjan Fajt: “All of us rode good today, in the wind you can really see how experienced the team is. We were controlling the whole race and I’m really sorry that I lost the race by some millimeters. Regardless I’m happy with the success and I look forward to continue in this pace.”

Team manager Boštjan Mervar was also happy with the outcome: “I’m happy with the racing and with the result. The important thing is that the team is working as one, and that we enjoy on this nice and well organized race. Everything is so much better with the good results.”
