Marko Kump shines in China
Opening stage of the Tour of Qinghai Lake in China finished with another triumph for Adria Mobil Cycling and especially Marko Kump. After 121 km long stage on the streets of Xining he beat Italian Mattio Gavazzi and Marco Zanotti in the final sprint. Twelfth victory of the season also brought him the yellow jersey of the leading rider on the race.

After days of rain we had sun in Xining, which made the perfect weather for the start of this though stage race. Xining lies on the bearable 2500 meters above sea level, perfect altitude for additional day of acclimatization before the tour goes higher on the Tibetan plateau.

Riders were very active for the whole day, with three riders that manage to escape: Sergiy Lagkuti (Kolss-BDC), Elchin Asadov (Synergy Baku) & Chun Feng Kai (Lampre -Merida). Adria Mobil had the race under control for the whole time and brought Marko Kump to the finish of the stage in the front row of the peloton, after that it was up to him to grab another victory. Now he is also in the leader’s jersey.

Marko Kump: “First stage was like made for us. Like everybody else, we also felt the effects of the high altitude and lack of oxygen. I felt the difference in my lungs and the hearth rate was also higher. I’m really happy to take the victory here and would like to thanks my team for a great support.”

Second stage should also suit Marko Kump perfectly, but it’s another story to ride in the yellow jersey.
