Experienced Jure Golčer gave a lection to younger riders
Team Adria Mobil Cycling won the third edition of Grand Prix Izola, which also means that Slovenians won all the editions of the race. Jure Golčer, most experienced rider on the race (with 38 years he is also the oldest), had most power in the end. He won in a small group of four riders that was in the lead for most of the race. Radoslav Rogina was fourth.

190 cyclists in total started the 156km long race Grand Prix Izola. Speed on the race was very high; the riders were attacking all the time and wanted to get in the best position before a climb or a difficult downhill. Crucial breakaway happened early in the race, on the second climb to Gažon. Eight riders escaped, but only four made it to the end and they decided on the winner.

Jure Golčer after the race: “We managed to stay in the lead because we were working together and everybody was pulling. Gap was never really big, so we couldn’t afford to take even a kilometer at a slower pace. Teams were changing lead on the front of the peloton but we didn’t surrender – even when we came very close. I’s doing good and I won with Radoslav Rogina’s great help.”

Team manager Boštjan Mervar said just before the race: “We didn’t won this race so far, it’s going to be very hard also this year. But we’ll give everything we have.” After the race he said: “It was hard, we gave everything we had and we managed to win. Race developed as we wanted to. We wanted an escape of small group of riders, Radoslav Rogina or Gašper Katrašnik should be among them. Rogina was in the escapee first, when Golčer joined I knew this is going to be our day.”

Jure Golčer joined the team this winter and already proved his worth. For sure this will not be his only victory of the season. Team Adria Mobil will stay on the coast, they have Umag Trophy on the schedule on Wednesday. Infamous race is always full of crashes and everybody is a little bit afraid of this race. Radoslav Rogina will not race, he crashed there last year and has very bad memories on the race. Adria Mobil will race with following riders: Jon Božič, Gašper Katrašnik, David Per, Matej Mesojedec, Matej Drinovec and Kristjan Fajt.
