Jure Golčer third on Motovun

Jure Golčer third on Motovun
Second stage of the Istrian Spring Trophy brought change on the top of the overall classifications. King’s stage from Vrsar to Motovun was defined by group crash just 3 km till the finish; more than hundred riders were involved and this also lead to the big changes in the standings. Dutch Martijn Tusvelds won the stage and is now in the lead, he took the stage ahead of Belgian Olivier Pardini and Adria Mobil’s Jure Golčer.

Riders felt stronger today and we saw one attack by another. However there were only two escapes worth mentioning – one from Adria Mobil’s Domen Novak and other by Swiss Patrick Schelling. They escaped ahead of the climb to Lupoglav and had a lead of two minutes in Buzet. They were caught a little bit more than kilometer till the finish.

Three kilometers till the finish a big crash happened. A lot of favorites was one the ground, among them also Radoslav Rogina and Markus Eibegger; Markus already won the race twice and was in also in the lead. Martijn Tusveld saw the opportunity for a victory and took it. Jure Golčer was excellent in third, he is now fifth overall.

Jure Golčer after the race: “Stage was very nervous, it took a lot of time for a real escape to form. Atmosphere was the same in the final part of the stage, just before the climb. We had a wind in our backs and we went 60 km/h. Big crash happened, but thanks to the help of my team-mates I wasn’t involved in it. I was just a little bit short with my power on the climb to Motovun, I didn’t won but I’m also happy with third.”

Radoslav Rogina crashed, but he is not too disappointed: “Riders in the front crashed. This happens in the group that goes 60 km/h and it’s hard to avoid the crash. I’m happy I’m in one piece. This is a problem of a big group, everybody would like to be in the front row, but 90% of them can’t do anything on the climb.”

Sunday’s stage isn’t to difficult and we don’t expect changes in the overall classifications.
