Race of millimeters

Race of millimeters
Adria Mobil’s under 23 riders were in the spotlight this weekend. Domen Novak was excellent in Italy on Coppi e Bartali stage race. Gašper Katrašnik and David Per were racing for the Slovenian national U23 team on the famous race Gent-Wevelgem in Belgium. Now the whole team is in perfect shape – just for the home race Grand Prix Adria Mobil.

Domen Novak was in the white jersey of best young rider for two days on the Coppi e Bartali. On the last day Colombian Egan Arley Bernal was better and won the jersey with the gap of four seconds. Jure Golčer and Novak were battling all the way to the end of the stage, but Barnal was better on the end. Overall victory went to Russian Sergey Firsanov. Domen Novak and Jure Golčer were 18th and 19th in the overall standings.

David Per had a great day on the Belgian classic Gent-Wevelgem (U23) – he was 4th, which is best Slovenian result on this race. Four riders came together to the finish line and millimeters decided on the winner. David Per: “Race was nervous and we’re fighting for positions all the time. We had strong wind in the first part of the race, so the peloton fell apart several times. I was at the front all the time and I felt excellent. On the end we had two more lops with three climbs on each of them. On of them had cobblestones and there where the selection happened. There were only three of us on the top of the last lap, two more caught up with us later. We had a good pace and we worked together, so we managed to get to the finish line ahead of the main group. I was 4th in the final sprint. I’m happy with this result and look forward to GP Adria Mobil next week and Tour of Flanders in 14 days.”

Does this mean that the students become better than teachers? We’ll see that on the next events of the season.
