Domen Novak crashed and lost all chances
Belgian Jens Keukeleire (Orica GreenEDGE) is surprising winner of first stage of 23rd Tour of Slovenia. Last climb to Gažon was too challenging for all sprinters that couldn’t kept the pace of the fastest. Adria Mobil’s Domen Novak crashed and lost all chances for good overall finish.

Jon Božič was the man of the day as far as Adria Mobil Cycling is concerned. He and four other cyclists were in the escape for more than 150 kilometers. There was some rain during the stage, which made racing conditions even harder. Breakaway managed to go up to six minutes lead, but that was not enough for the final success.

Peloton caught them on the last climb of the day, on Gažon. On the descent from Gažon Adria’s favorite for overall standings Domen Novak crashed and lost all chances for high overall result.

Adria Mobil Cycling doesn’t loose hope because of that – Jure Golčer and Radoslav Rogina came to the finish in first group and remain in the battle for top positions. Finish of the race was quite surprising since everybody was expecting a sprint finish.

Today’s race was 125th stage in the 23-years old history of Tour of Slovenia and it also delivered first victory for Belgium – thanks to Jens Keukeleire.

Tomorrow’s stage could already decide on the overall winners – it will be 217 kilometers long, with start in Gorica and finish on Golte.
