Gašper Katrašnik Eight in First Stage

Gašper Katrašnik Eight in First Stage
Australian William Clarke won spectacular prologue on Kitzbüheler Horn, first “real” stage of Tour of Austria then finished with group sprint finish. Italian Nicola Ruffoni won the stage from Innsbruck to Salzburg, Adria Mobil’s Gašper Katrašnik was eight!

Stage winner Nicola Ruffoni got bonus time and also took the lead in the overall standings. Domen Novak finished the day in the main group and defended 12th place overall. He earned that with great performance on the though prologue.

Gašper Katrašnik did a very good job in the sprint finish and had this to say after the race: “Today’s stage was very fast, average speed was close to 45 km/h! Lots of cyclists wanted to escape, first real breakaway of three riders happened only after 65 kilometers. Team Bardiani lead the chase in the second part of the race and they also won the stage later. My teammates helped me get in the good position on the list climb – I was still strong enough in the end and I took eight.”

Longest stage of the race, from Mondsee to Steyr (205 km) is on schedule on Monday. We don’t expect to see battle of overall contenders, they will wait for race to go into Alps.
