Sonntagberg did first selection

Biggest problem on today’s stage from Ardagger to climb on Sonntagberg was mostly extreme heat. Other than that is was a pretty standard stage. Battle for breakaway from the start, after an successful escape everything calms down. This time five riders escaped, but they were never more than four minutes ahead. Main group caught them couple of kilometers before the final climb to 673 meters high Sonntagberg. Pace was very hard and gaps became big.
Domen Novak was 17th and he’s still in the contact with the leaders.
Jure Golčer was not so satisfied after today’s stage: “I don’t have a lot of words… I knew right away that I’m not strong enough. I don’t like this heat and my form is not the same as it was on Tour on Slovenia. I prefer tomorrow’s climb better, but I don’t think I’ll manage to keep up with the best.”
Stage is going to be really hard, the race will extended classical finish on Grossglockner for another 1600 meters to the Edelweißspitze. This is the first time in 68 years of Tour of Austria that the finish will be there. Edelweißspitze is 2554 meters high and only a narrow road leads to there. Title King of Grossglockner will nevertheless go to the rider that will be the fastest across the finish line on the traditional finish area. Couple of Slovenians already won this title: Jure Pavlič, Valter Bonča, Boris Premužič and some others. We’ll get a new king tomorrow.
