Teenager surprised his coach

Teenager surprised his coach
Istrian Spring Trophy started with 1.8 km long prologue in Umag. Australian Alex Frame won this short stage, he’s a specialist for this kind of stages after all. Adria Mobil’s best among 200 contenders was Žiga Horvat in sixth!

Spring races in Croatian Istria are a real magnet for continental teams from all over the world. There are always 200 cyclists on the start, the maximum number that is allowed by the UCI. This time there are 34 teams with riders from 33 countries on the start. Riders often complain that Istrian roads don’t support such a big group, but economic impact always prevails, despite the large number of crashes.

Team Adria Mobil Cycling is happy with the outcome of the first day. Žiga Horvat – still a teenager – was sixth and was behind the track cyclists.

Team head coach Boštjan Mervar was all satisfied with the outcome: “I’m very happy with how stage developed. Žiga was 6th, with three seconds behind the winner. Only rider that specialize in track racing were ahead of him. Žiga Horvat delivered positive result after a bad start of the season. This is just his second race today and he already show where he belongs. He’ll get more opportunities from now on, next stage on the race is already perfect for him. In the last moment they changed the stage from Poreč to Labin, this time we don’t have a finish on the paved climb in the center of Labin. We’ll make a left-hand turn just before the climb and will finish the stage 600 m further, there is even a slight descent.”
